Armen
Armen Dzigarkhanyan (born in 1935) is the most popular Armenian actor working in Russia.He starred in dozens Soviet films (e.g., The Elusive Avengers), provided the voice for many Soyuzmultfilm cartoon characters, and founded his own theater in Moscow. Born in 1935 in Yerevan, Armen Dzigarkhanyan worked as assistant camera operator at Armenfilm studios in 1953-1954. Dzhigarkhanyan began his acting career in 1955 at the Russian Stanislavsky Theater in Yerevan, and in 1967 moved to the Lenkom Theater in Moscow. In 1969 he joined the Mayakovsky Academic Theater. Dzhigarkhanyan was awarded the Armenian Republican State Prize in 1975 for "Triangle" and again in 1979 for "Snow in Mourning." He famously appeared as a chief gangster in the 1979 TV series The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed. He was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1985.
Agasi
Andre Agassi was born April 29, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. His Iranian-born Armenian father Mike Agassian was an Olympic boxer in 1948 and 1952. Andre, the youngest of 4 children, was deemed a tennis prodigy at age three. At age 18, tennis champion Andre Agassi became the youngest U.S. player to be ranked number one in the world. He first won at Wimbledon in 1992, the U.S. Open in 1994, and the Australian Open in 1995. When he won the French Open in 1999, he became the fifth man in tennis history to win all four Grand Slam events. Bred on the Las Vegas Strip, he was an entertainer on the court.
Babadjanyan

Arno Babajanian, a distinquished composer of the 20th century, the USSR People's Artist, the State Awards laureate of Armenia.
Arno Babajanian was born in Yerevan. Babajanian's childhood friend composer Alexander Haroutiunian mentions that starting with the age 5-6 Babajanian attempted to play the old piano of the kindergarten, and one may say that he already made the first steps in music. Babajanian composed in different genres: classic, pop music, jazz music, musical, etc.Among his songs are: "Memory," "I Ask You," "Song of First Love," "Yerevan". His songs were performed by USSR People's Artists Iosif Kobzon, Alla Pugachova, Muslim Magomayev, Eduard Khil, Zhan Tatlian, Raisa Mkrtchian, Bella Darbinian and other famous singers.

Died in 1983.

Egoyan
Atom Egoyan, Cairo-born, Canadian-bred and of Armenian descent, is one of the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers on the international scene. Egoyan was born to Joseph and Shushan Yeghoyan in Cairo, Egypt and was raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. As a teenager, he became interested in reading and writing plays. He graduated from the University of Toronto. Egoyan is now based in Toronto, where he lives with his wife, Arsinée Khanjian, an actress who appears in many of Egoyan's films, and their son, Arshile.
Egoyan has directed a dozen full-length films, several television episodes, and a few shorter pieces. His early work was based on his own material, and he received some notice for the film Exotica (1994), but it was Egoyan's first attempt at adapted material that resulted in his most well-known work, The Sweet Hereafter (1997).

aznavour
Charles Aznavour, born in May 22, 1924, Paris is a French singer, songwriter, actor, public activist and diplomat of Armenian descent. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and profound low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1,000 songs (including at least 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and sold well over 100 million records. In 1998, Charles Aznavour was chosen as Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. He has sung for presidents, popes, and royalty, as well as at humanitarian events, and is the founder of the charitable organization Aznavour for Armenia along with his long-time friend and impresario Levon Sayan. Aznavour started his global farewell tour in late 2006, which continues through this day. In 2009 he was appointed ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland, as well as Armenia's permanent delegate to the United Nations at Geneva.
Cher Sarkisyan
Cherilyn Sarkisian was born in California in 1946; she was 17 when she first met Salvatore "Sonny" Bono, a songwriter and protégé of producer Phil Spector. Bono brought her to Spector, who used her as a backup singer and produced one single by her, a novelty Beatles tribute record called "Ringo I Love You" issued under the name Bonnie Jo Mason. Cher has had three careers that place her indelibly in the public consciousness, and two have been in association with her then-husband, composer/producer/singer Salvatore "Sonny" Bono (February 16, 1935-January 8, 1998). She charted major hit records in the 1960s and 1970s, working in idioms ranging from early- '60s girl group-style ballads to Jackie Deshannon folk-influenced pop, to adult contemporary pop in the manner of later Dusty Springfield.
Kasparov
Garry Kimovich Kasparov was born 13 April 1963 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. His father was named Kim Moiseyevich Wainshtein, but died when Garry was seven, and the boy later adopted the Russian version of his mother's Armenian maiden name, Kasparian. Kim Moiseyevich Weinstein, his father, was a teacher and Klara Shagenovna Kasparova, his mother of Armenian ancestry, was an engineer. While the World Championship may be the most visible indication of Kasparov's success, it is not the only one. His reign as World Champion from 1985 to 2000 fell within his unbroken ranking (except for a brief period when he shared the honor with Kramnik) as the world's no.1 rated player, which started in 1984. In 1989 he was the first player to achieve a stratospheric 2800 FIDE rating.
Aivazovsky
Hovhannes (Ivan) Aivazovsky is the most interesting phenomenon of 19th century art. He gained international fame at the age of 25, was elected a member to five European Academies and was awarded the medal of the French Legion of Honor. Aivazovsky was born in an Armenian family in the city of Theodosia in the Crimea {The Artist's ancestors were called Aivazian. His father called himself Haivazosky. The Artist and his brother decided to call themselves Aivazian or Aivazovsky. Some of the Artist's work bears the signature Hovhannes Aivazian, in Armenian}. At the age of twenty he graduates from the Art Academy of St. Petersburg with a gold medal. He goes to Italy to continue his studies and returns as an internationally acclaimed seascape painter. Neither financial security nor life in Palace interests him. He returns to his native land, builds a workplace/home on the seashore and, until the last days of his life, dedicates himself to the work that he loves. He participates in exhibitions all over the world. He gets recognition and glory as a representative of Russian art greatly helps in familiarizing it. In Aivazovsky's creative work one finds such aspects of Armenian culture and national temperament that it becomes impossible to separate his art from his native people. It is this characteristic that gives Aivazovsky's creativity its unique quality.
Jivan Gasparyan
Jivan Gasparian, a 80 year-old Armenian musician ,is world famous for his playing and composition on the duduk, or Armenian traditional flute.Gasparian has played a rich and varied program of popular Armenian songs and melodies but what has brought worldwide fame was the soundtrack recording to the Oscar-winning Ridley Scott film “Gladiator”. Gasparian's collaborative projects have included recordings and performances with the Yerevan Symphonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kronos Quartet, as well internationally famous musicians and composers such as Peter Gabriel, Michael Brook, Lionel Richie and Andreas Vollenweider. Of the many awards he has won for his music the most recent was in 2002 when he was presented the World Best Musician Award at the World Music Expo in Berlin, from a total of 1900 artists from 80 countries. Gasparian, who coaxes the sounds and spirits of nature and the human soul out of his instrument, discovered it when he was an 8 year-old orphan watching Armenian silent films with live musical accompaniment.
Kerkorian
US-born Kerkorian is the world's richest Armenian. American financier; chairman and major stockholder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation; real estate investor; purchaser of the Las Vegas Strip's Flamingo Hotel; builder of the International Hotel, which opened on July 2, 1969, and was at the time the largest in the world; and founder of Trans International Airlines Corporation.
Saryan
Moskovyan Street becomes Saryan Street, so named after Martiros Saryan (1880-1972) and here too stands a museum—a memorial one to the artist, at No. 3. A building containing an exhibition of Saryan s pictures is attached to the small residence with its workshop. Martiros Saryan studied in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He was greatly influenced by Russian art, especially by such painters as Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin. Even Saryan’s first canvases show his penchant for bright colors, his original vision of the world around him, expressiveness and unusual composition. His cycle of works painted after trips to Turkey, Iran and Egypt first brought him renown. In 1921, Saryan settled in Yerevan, and from then on Armenia, its countryside and people, became the main theme in his work. He is particularly famous for his landscapes, including the astonishing “Saryan’s Armenia”, in which he celebrates the beauty of his land renewed. He also painted a fair number of portraits, which are remarkable for their psychological depth and philosophical approach. Martins Saryan was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the USSR, he was member of the USSR Academy of Arts, member of the Armenian Academy of Sciences, winner of the Lenin and State Prizes of the USSR and was made Hero of Socialist Labor.
Mktrtchyan
Frunzik (Mher) Mkrtchyan, 4 July 1930 – 29 December 1993) a popular Soviet Armenian actor , a People's Artist of the USSR in 1984.
He was born in Leninakan, current Gyumri, Armenia of Fine Arts and Theatre. Since 1953 he has performed in the Sundukyan Drama Theatre of Yerevan. His cinema career began in 1955. His famous roles in Rolan Bykov's "Aybolit-66" (1966), Leonid Gaidai's "Kidnapping Caucasian Style" (1966), and Georgi Daneliya's "Mimino" (1977) earned him the reputation of one of the leading comedy actors in the Soviet Union. But that reputation sometimes overshadowed his real talent and emotional deepness which he put in his roles in such classics of Armenian cinema as "Yerankyuni" (1967), "Menq enq, mer sarere" (1969) , "Hayrik" (1973), "Nahapet" (1977), "Hin oreri yerge" (1982), "Mer mankutyan tangon" (1985). Among his many awards was the USSR State Prize for 1978. He died in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1993.
Raffi
Children's music was revolutionized by the recordings of Egypt-born and British Columbia-based singer-songwriter Raffi. Raffi had his greatest success when he directed his performances and recordings to youngsters during the 1980s. Raffi's albums of children's music have sold more than eight million copies worldwide and have led to him being called, "The Bruce Springsteen of the younger set".
William Saroyan
Novelist, short-story writer, dramatist, and essayist, William Saroyan was born in Fresno, California in 1908. A high-school dropout, Saroyan was largely self-educated and decided at an early age to pursue a career as a writer, drawing on his experience as an Armenian-American growing up in California. His first published works were sketches in The Overland Monthly in 1928, which inspired him to seek his fortune in New York City.
